3 COMPUTING IN SCHOOLS On 7 February 2013 the Department for Education published proposals for the reform of the National Curriculum. To implement computing curriculum in schools with a greater emphasis on practical programming and computing skills, to help the UK retain a competitive edge in the global digital economy. Designed to equip students with the computing skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.

4 WHAT IS COMPUTING It has a mathematical underpinnings, and involves the application of logic and reasoning. The importance is on how computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed. To design and test computer programs using a range of computer programs: Visual Basic, Small Basic, Python and HTML. Its about understanding computer-based technology, to be better equipped to function in modern society.

6 BENEFITS Gives learners a real, in-depth understanding of how computer technology works. Provides excellent preparation for higher study and employment in Computer Science. Develop critical thinking, analysis and problem- solving skills.

7 DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMPUTING AND ICT? ComputingICT To understand and explore the world around us both natural and artificial, in computational terms. Computing is a lot more technical, with less emphasis on business and more emphasis on the actual design and programming of IT systems. Computing involves a lot of maths, and unlike ICT, you will actually be expected to learn how to use a number of programming languages. Topics include things such as Networking, Hardware and Operating Systems. ICT deals more with the organisational and business side of IT systems of information. You study topics like the Nature of Information, Role of IT in Organisations. Topics include things such as: creating a Database, designing a logo and developing a website.
