ALCOHOLISM: is an illness characterized by a physical and psychological need for alcohol IMMEDIATE EFFECTS: Impaired judgment, memory, and concentration LONG-TERM EFFECTS: Brain cell destruction, nervous system disorders, and memory loss

Heart ◦IM- increased heart rate ◦LT- Irregular heartbeat, heart muscle damage Liver ◦IM-Become unbalanced because it filters out 90% of the alcohol ◦LT- Cirrhosis or scarring and destruction of the liver tissue, and liver cancer

Kidneys ◦IM- increased urination, which can cause dehydration and dizziness ◦LT- Kidney failure, result from high blood pressure Stomach ◦IM- Vomiting, can lead to choking ◦LT- Ulcers in the stomach lining and stomach cancer
