Inter/Intramolecular Forces Lesson Plan Created by Holly Potters N ortheastern University RET 2009
2
Introduction Subject: Chemistry Grades: 10-12 grades Time Required: 3 to 4 - 45 minute class periods Essential Questions: 1. What factors influence physical properties? 2. Why does the body process certain molecules differently?
3
The Plan Students must have prior knowledge about types of bonds (ionic, polar/nonpolar covalent) and states of matter. 1. Introduce intermolecular and intramolecular forces through use of magnet/molecule activity. 2. Discuss the difference between the two types of forces and then discuss the types within each category.
5
The Plan (continued) 3. Use boiling point and melting point worksheet activity to get students to identify relative strengths of forces and connect to physical properties (including viscosity). 4. Students will investigate intermolecular forces in biological molecules.
