By Mark Dodridge

Climate: Precipitation and temperature averages over 30 years of recording Weather: Everyday atmospheric conditions, changes all the time

Precipitation per year over at least 30 years Recorded temperature variations and averages over 30 years Determines what kind of vegetation grows Vegetation determines what animals live there Many different climatic regions Tropical (Wet, Dry), Sub-tropical, temperate marine, temperate continental, tundra, polar.

Changes everyday Current atmospheric conditions of a particular place Temperature Precipitation Warm and cold fronts change weather Common storms: Thunderstorms, blizzards, tornadoes, hurricanes, winter storms, etc.

Receives over 100 inches of rainfall a year Year round growing season 300 species of trees in one acre of land ¼ of medicine comes from plants found here Amazon River has more species of fish than the entire Atlantic Ocean Rains everyday Average temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit

8 to 12 month growing season Annual precipitation less than tropical areas Annual temperatures are less than that of tropical areas South Florida fits this criteria Many different plants and animals live in these areas

Many different plants grow in these regions Western United States and Canada Redwood and Sequoia trees grow in these areas Largest plants in the world Areas receive rain much like tropical areas, but colder temperatures year round

Very dry area Precipitation is mostly in form of snowfall 10 inches of snow= 1 inch of rain Very cold year round Growing season is less than 3 months Shrubs and grasses are the only vegetation Many migratory animals that search for food

Polar Bears: Highlights from the Tundra | Defenders of Wildlife - YouTube Polar Bears: Highlights from the Tundra | Defenders of Wildlife - YouTube

Choose a climate region from the Western Hemisphere (North, Central, or South America and Caribbean Region) On your computer, go to the website www.blueplanetbiomes.com and research your particular climate of choice www.blueplanetbiomes.com From this website, you should be able to gather information that you need to complete the assignment

Identify 5 different plants that grow in this climate Describe 5 different characteristics of animals that live here Explain how much precipitation falls annually Explain the average annual temperatures for this region Identify where these places are found in the Western Hemisphere (i.e., Southeastern United States, Alaska, Northern Canada)

Once you’ve completed your research, create a power point Minimum of 5 slides Slide One: Plants Slide Two: Animals Slide Three: Annual Precipitation Slide Four: Annual Average Temperature Slide Five: Where is your climate found You need two pictures portraying your climatic region
