Who His full name is Pere Jacques Marquette His family was wealthy and noble He was born in Laon, France 1675 and he died in New France 1637 He was very well educated His career was being a Jesuit priest and an explorer He spent ten years studying and teaching in France

When Born in France on June 10, 1636 1666: Father Jacques Marquette was sent to Canada by the priests to teach native Indians about Catholic religion In 1673 he lead a missionary down the Mississippi river He was 36 on the expedition Pere did this because he wanted to find the Northwest Passage 1673 Began an expedition and discovered the the Mississippi river May 19, 1675: Father Jacques Marquette died near Ludington, Michigan

Where He explored the Great Lakes with the Indians and the French. He came to America to find the Northwest passage He sailed on Lake Superior, the Wisconsin River, the Fox River and the Mississippi River He went through a lot of places just to find the Northwest Passage.
