What is Mass Media? The mass media is a kind of informal channels of communication. It includes newspapers, magazines, radio stations, televisions and the Internet. They can be classified into Printed and Electronic Media..

The mass media provides information and a way for people to communicate their opinions. Through the mass media the government can explain its policies and people can communicate their views.

Newspaper and Magazine
There are many newspaper and magazines in Hong Kong, they publish a new issue daily, once a week, or bi-weekly. Newspapers is the cheapest kind of mass media in Hong Kong We will provide informations of the oldest newspaper company in Hong Kong, the Tai Kung Pao, and a magazine provider, the Next Media Interactive Ltd.

Tai Kung Pao Ta Kung was Pao established in 1902
It is the oldest existing Chinese newspaper in the world. It was awarded the Missouri Prize in 1941 by the Missouri University of the United States. The Ta Kung news group also publishes series of magazines such as The Big Weekly, The West China Special, and The Consumer Special .

Television Television is the most popular type of mass media that the people like in Hong Kong. There are two kinds of television media in Hong Kong, some is free, some is charged. we'll discuss about the two free television media provider in Hong Kong, They are TVB (Television Broadcasts Limited), and ATV (Asia Televison Limited), and the charged television provider, I cable TV in Hong Kong.

Asia Television Limited (ATV)
Asia Television limited is one of the biggest television media provider in Hong Kong. It was established in 1956.It's original name is "Lai Tik Fool Sing". It changed it's name to "Lai Tik Television" in 1981. It changed its name to "ATV" in 1983. It has two channels. The Cantonese one is called “ATV Home”. The English one is called the “ATV World”.

Television Broadcast Limited(TVB)
Television Broadcasts Limited is the first wireless commercial television station in Hong Kong. It was first established on 19 November It is situated in Clear Water Bay Road.

Hong Kong Cable Television Limited
It was launched on October 31, 1993. Hong Kong Cable Television Limited (CABLE TV) has set the trend of multi-channel pay-television service for Hong Kong. The diversity of programming choice with a well-balanced mix of local programs and international channels offered by the station has served a metropolitan city like Hong Kong well.
