Personification- Giving human qualities or actions to something that is not human. Example- The trees waved goodbye as our school bus passed by. Non Example- The trees swayed in the wind. Personification

The Importance of understanding personification Good readers are able to make a mind movie using personification. Good writers are able to use personification to make their writing more interesting.

Steps to define personification 1.The wind sang her mournful song through the falling leaves. 1.The microwave timer told me it was time to turn my frozen food. as Is personified by using the verb… wind sang Microwave timer told Step 1- Read the passage or statement. Step 2- Identify what is being personified. Step 3- Identify how the subject is being personified. Step 4- Determine meaning of the personification The wind sang means the wind was blowing Microwave timer beeped

Authors of poems often use personification to make their writing more interesting. the geese dance above my window singing honking their rusty trumpets reminding me part of me will go with them and they will dress me in their whispery down promising me pleasures of southern treats releasing me from winter’s grip geese dancesingingdress as The author is trying to say that the geese are flying south and honking. When he says they will dress him, he means he will use their feathers in his winter jacket.

We can also personify objects that are not human by giving them human qualities. Cloud A cloud can be white, puffy, and soft. The happy cloud distributed sunlight in every direction. OR a cloud can be dark, gray, and rainy. The cloud cried tears of loneliness for days and days.
