DBQ Thesis Statements The thesis statement is the most important single part of the DBQ essay, so keep the following in mind… 1.The thesis is the main idea that you will develop in your answer, so make sure it clearly states exactly what you will prove in your essay 2.Your thesis must respond directly to all aspects of the question, not just one part 3.Your thesis must make a claim that you can back up with evidence from the primary sources

7. DBQ Essay Structure If your thesis statement is a guide for how you interpret the evidence, your body paragraphs are where you actually interpret the evidence. Keep the following in mind… 1.Each paragraph should explain a different subtopic or key idea that proves your thesis 2.Each paragraph should be built around details and quotes from the primary sources that prove your thesis 3.Each paragraph should elaborate on the evidence with explanations of the details and quotes that show why the evidence backs up the thesis
