2. 2 Contents  Just a few slides to help start a discussion about how our organization is working towards integrating Riscmanagement and Crisismanagement.  Terrorism Resilience  Critical Infrastructure  Flooding

3. 3 Terrorism Resilience The Hague historically has a lot off experience with terrorism. During the '70's-80's-90's several attacks have taken place. All those attacks were focused against (foreign) national targets and interests, fitting the various national conflicts world wide.

4. 4 Terrorism Resilience After the 9/11 attacks, and even more so after the mass transit bombings in Madrid and London we revised our plans. A new 'form' of terrorism had emerged which we have to deal with. Focus is on terrorism resilience. How to deny terrorists their goal? Resilience!

5. 5 Terrorism Resilience Police & Intelligence services have the responsibillity to (try to) prevent attacks. Safety organisations, such as the fire department and the ambulance services, have a responsibillity in responding to incidents, including terrorist attacks. Our focus is on awareness with our personell, to know that there is an attack is key to deal with an attack!

6. 6 Critical Infrastructure Failure Failure of Critical Infrastructure installations is one of (possibly the) largest risks in our safety region. Focus in preparing for failure is on building relations between the 'players'. Mainly to be certain of effective cooperation in case of an emergency. We are in a proces of making structural cooperation agreements between ourself (Fire, Police, Ambulance, Municipality) and CI partners on an operational level, with a minimum of fuss, just telephone numbers, who calls who, when and why and what are the expectations.

7. 7 Flooding Following Katrina and other (smaller) floodings in Europe there has been a large investment in planning and preparing for floodings. The Hageu region is (very) vulnerable for flooding, both from the North Sea and river flooding. Most of our region needs dykes and levees to stay dry.

8. 8 Flooding In our planning we focused on getting al the players around the planning table. One of the main challenges is how to evacuate 1.000.000 civillians within a realistic time frame?! Further you have to be able to give the best advise possible to those responsible for giving the evacuation order. And, of course, you have to be able to keep performing your operational activities....
