What type of records are available? Site plans As Built Surveys – Limited availability Building Plans Permit Forms Land use cases Survey plat – Recorded and stored by State of Alaska DNR – 400 Willoughby Ave, 3 rd floor.

What can you copy? Some documents are protected by Copyright. – Plans stamped by an Architect / Engineer – Plans plainly marked as Copyrighted Some plans are copy restricted to protect privacy – Interior floor plans Copyrighted documents require owners written permission to copy. However, all documents are public record, and available for viewing.

Due Diligence Beware purchasing a property before checking for open and or required permits. – Many open permits have already had the work completed, and merely need a final inspection to close the permit. – On occasion, it may be less expensive to “restore” a structure to its original condition vs. completing the project.

Who is responsible? Regardless of who applies for a permit, remember that the current property owner is ultimately responsible. Our staff are always willing to work with applicants to ensure a safe community.
