UMTRCA Disposal and Processing Sites 8 There are 36 Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA) Title I and Title II processing or disposal sites managed LM. Twenty-two inactive uranium ore-processing sites were remediated resulting in the creation of 19 disposal cells. These sites are location on or near tribal lands: Mexican Hat, UT; Monument Valley, AZ; Riverton WY; Sherwood, WA; Shiprock, NM.

Legacy Management Sites 10 There are 98 sites managed by LM. There are 44 sites that have analytical support requirements. There are 40 sites identified for transfer to Legacy Management over the next 10 years.
11
Analytical Services Contracts 11 Analytical services were procured utilizing the ICPT Basic Ordering Agreement along with an LM-specific requirements document. Contracts were awarded March 2008. The total dollar amount of the contracts for FY2013 was 758K. FY2014 estimated total is 770K. Other contracts for special analytical services and site-specific requirements are established as needed.
12
Laboratory Data Errors 12 Common Laboratory Data Quality Errors Samples switched, improperly labeled at log-in or during extraction / digestion. Sample results from multiple analyses at different dilutions are not in agreement indicating a dilution error. Sample analyzed at multiple dilutions. Analyst’s hand-written notes misinterpreted during data entry resulting is a dilution factor error.
13
Laboratory Data Errors 13 Data are from multiple laboratories Data are from multiple sites
14
Data Quality and Defensibility 14 Data Quality Sample integrity Effective procedures and processes Analyses performed correctly Results reported correctly Effective review Data Defensibility Logbooks Procedures Expired standards / calibrations Traceability Qualifications and training
15
Opportunities for Improvement 15 Data Quality Communicate problem areas to the audit team before the audit. Review the laboratory’s customer complaints to identify systematic errors. Prioritize audit areas of review. Data quality first, data defensibility second.
16
DOECAP Participation 16 Legacy Management has three DOECAP auditors, one lead auditor. Quality Assurance Management Systems and General Laboratory Practices Data Quality for Organic Analyses Data Quality for Inorganic and Wet Chemistry Analyses Data Quality for Radiochemistry Analyses Laboratory Information Management Systems/Electronic Data Deliverables Hazardous and Radioactive Materials Management
