11. Henry Hudson (1609 and 1610) Searched for Northwest Passage Sailed for the Netherlands in 1609 and England in 1610 Sailed up present day Hudson River Discovered and named Hudson Bay

12. Robert de La Salle (1682) Explored the Mississippi river region Claimed the Mississippi River and all the land around it for France Named this vast area of Louisiana after King Louis XIV of France
