Mission Statement The mission of the Matilda Hartley Elementary library media program is to enable students and staff to become effective users of ideas, information and to prepare them for college readiness.

Entering and Exiting Please enter quietly. Please exit quietly. Do not run in or out!

Media Center Rules Respect the library materials Everything has a correct place Always return books Don’t disturb others working in the library In addition, all school rules apply in regards to proper behavior.

Checking Out You may NOT check out books when the media specialist is not here (Unless there is a trained substitute). When your table is called, you will go select a book. Once you are checked out, sit quietly and READ! Kindergarten through Second grade may check out one book per visit for a period of one week. Third through Fifth grade may check out two books per visit for a period of one week.

Remember… The library is a quiet, learning environment, not a playground! Respect those around you because you don ’ t know if they are testing, reading, or studying. You can’t check out another book until the previous book is returned. This is YOUR library- take care of it!

The Media Center provides: Books Magazines Curriculum support and research opportunities to classes A Web site to support online research (Under Construction) Computers and Technology Interactive Games Digital Cameras, Camcorders-Must be used with teacher supervision.

Other Media Center Rules Line up at the circulation desk. Share. Respect the books and your classmates.

Sorry! I don ’ t like bugs! Food and drinks are NOT allowed in the media center!

EASY Easy books are fiction books that are easier to read. They are shelved by the author ’ s last name.

FICTION Means fake or made up. Not True. Fiction books are alphabetized by the author ’ s last name. o Judy Blume – shelved as FIC BLU

NON-FICTION Means not fake. True. Books about real things. Also fairy tales and folk tales. Shelved by Dewey Decimal number: o Subject number and author ’ s name.
