Current Challenges l Ensure the value—associated benefits and relevance--of IEEE membership in the face of rapidly changing technological & social environments l Develop and grow the IEEE Membership Business l Coordinate product & program development & implementation l Assess finances of the membership business & new member products l Global Activity – role of geographic units l Ensure the vitality and contributions of the geographic units l Optimize the RAB geographic unit structure l Encourage member/geounit growth & development l Volunteerism l Attracting & retaining good volunteers (Particularly industry related) l Enhance opportunities for volunteers at all levels

Graduate Student Member (GSM) l What is it? l A new Membership Grade l Qualifications: l GSMs must meet existing qualifications for Member grade, while also carrying carry at least 50% of a normal full-time academic program as a registered graduate student in a course of study in an IEEE- designated field l Rights and Privileges: l Graduate Student Members shall have all the rights and privileges of Members, including voting and eligibility to hold volunteer offices reserved for Members. l Dues: l At the present time GSMs will be assessed dues and fees at the existing Student rates.

GSM Implementation Schedule l The formal assignment of the Graduate Student Member grade will occur with the commencement of the 2007 renewal cycle (Sept 2006) l Upon renewal for 2007, those eligible will be issued membership cards reflecting their new grade. l Qualifying new members will also be assigned the GSM grade and issued the appropriate membership card commencing Sep 2006 l GSM’s will be eligible to vote in the 2006 election (for 2007 officeholders) and will be issued ballots
