3 www.nysweca.org3 BEFORE YOU PLACE A STUDENT Verify program enrollment or teacher recommendation. Obtain signed “Parental Permission” form. Photo copy the student’s Employment Certificate and Driver’s License.

6 www.nysweca.org6 BEFORE YOU PLACE A STUDENT Review student’s resume and/or Employability Skills Profile. Verify “Safety Training” instruction. Discuss the training parameters: Days, hours, tasks, duration, pay.

7 www.nysweca.org7 BEFORE YOU PLACE A STUDENT Discuss transportation issues. Using a street map, map the travel route with the student. Verify “Pre-employment” lessons have been completed. Job application, calling employer, dressing for interview, interview techniques, etc.

9 www.nysweca.org9 WITH THE EMPLOYER Before You Place the Student Meet with the employer to discuss: Training plan. Safety considerations. Pay, hours, days, etc. Insurance coverage.

10 www.nysweca.org10 WITH THE EMPLOYER Before You Place the Student Meet with the employer to discuss: The “culture” of the company. Memorandum of Agreement Student evaluation form and procedures. Long term plans for this training site.

11 www.nysweca.org11 WITH THE EMPLOYER Before You Place the Student Meet the student’s supervisor. Tour site – look for hazardous situations. Invite CTE teacher to view the job site and meet the employer with you.

29 www.nysweca.org29 REGIONAL RESTRICTIONS FOR A JUNIOR LICENSE “You may drive alone only directly between your home and employment, a work-study program, a course at a college, university, or registered evening high school, a driver education course, or while engaged in farm employment.”

30 www.nysweca.org30 Driving …. "School Course" means instruction, education or training that is licensed or approved by a state agency or department, or training conducted by the U.S. Armed Forces. The term "school course" does NOT include extracurricular activities, sports or social events for which no scholastic credits are given. "Employment" means a place of business at which you are paid to work on a regularly scheduled basis. You may NOT drive during work or as part of your work duties, such as for deliveries.
