3 Review of Capitol Hill Landscape  Currently Congress is out on a 2 week district recess. On Tuesday, April 13th, they return to Washington, DC.  Cutting budgets, reducing the deficit, stimulating the economy, and creating jobs will be top of mind among Members of Congress.  The level of partisanship and party feuding has steadily increased as a result of the sweeping healthcare bill being passed.  FY 2011 appropriations process will be in full swing.  Education reform hearing will be underway.

7 Schedule Americans for the Arts Action Fund PAC Fundraiser 4:30 p.m.–5:15 p.m.  Actor Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives) to make special remarks  Minimum contribution of $50 to the Arts Action Fund PAC is required.  Only Arts Action Fund members are eligible to contribute to the PAC; membership is free at the Advocate level. Stop by the Arts Action Fund resource table during the conference to sign-up and avoid long lines at the event. The 23rd Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy Concert Hall, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Program begins at 6:30 p.m.  Free. You must bring the tickets provided in your registration packets.  Presented by Americans for the Arts. Lecture by Mayor Joe Riley.  Round-trip bus shuttle service available from the Omni Shoreham Hotel to the Kennedy Center. Monday, April 12

9 Schedule Congressional Arts Kick Off Event 8:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m. (doors open at 8:00 a.m.) Cannon Caucus Room, Cannon House Office Building  Congressional Arts Leadership Award to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi  Registrants will use convenient Metrorail transportation.  Continental breakfast will be available.  Featuring remarks by several Members of Congress. Lobbying Visits 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  State & District Captains lead team visits to Congressional Offices for their pre- scheduled appointments. 10 Schedule Congressional Arts Hearing 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2359  Limited seating is available in the Committee Room but there is an overflow room available to view the hearing live on large screen monitors.  Witnesses include:  NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman  Congressional Arts Caucus Co-Chairs Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Todd Platts (R-PA)  Americans for the Arts panel of witnesses include Robert Lynch, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Actor Kyle MacLachlan, Retired General Nolen Bivens, Ovation TV CEO Charles Seagars, and Minot Arts Council Executive Director Terri Aldrich. 15 Overall Message to Your Delegation  Your visit to your Congressional delegation is important because it’s part of an (organized) show for support;  The most important information to share isn’t national data, it’s your local examples and research – so bring ‘em to town;  Members want to see how votes they cast results in funding and support at home – show bring examples of how government support has helped.
