LANK’s Strategic Imperatives 2014-2015 Thank you for 50 years of laughing and learning with your children! 1965 - 2015
2
LANK is a diverse community of children, parents, and educators partnering to provide the optimum early education experience in a vibrant and a stimulating learning environment. We believe that a child’s early experience is the foundation for adult potential, that parents are key to a child’s development, and that play is essential to the learning process of a child. Each child is a unique and curious learner and will develop naturally in a nurturing and stimulating setting that encourages exploration and play. Children thrive in an active, supportive environment and at LANK our teachers strive to create a setting in which children feel welcome, safe, and successful. Students enjoy broadened educational experiences as we engage the resources available from the Northern Virginia community at large. We are grateful for the commitment and generous support of teachers, staff, and families and their vital role in LANK’s achievements over the past fifty years. The educational experience at LANK is enhanced through expansion of the curriculum, addition of new programs and camps, building renovations, and adoption of new technologies. Key Mission Principles

Our tradition continues with LANK’s three strategic imperatives. We support our mission and philosophy as we adopt the following… Assess and Refine LANK’s Strategies for Early Learning Leverage Latest Advancements in Technology Transform Physical Environment Assess, review, and refine the measurable range of skills and knowledge essential for early learning success complementary to LANK’s goals and objectives. Assure that assessment tools used at LANK communicate children’s progress to parents thoroughly and clearly. Promote “LANK Celebrates!” initiative school wide emphasizing creativity, experiential learning, and joyful celebration. Evaluate enrichment classes at LANK to assure that they support and extend educational goals and objectives. Continue to integrate experiential learning in our play-based curriculum with a special emphasis on math and science. Introduce a June Session to be held June 8 - June 26, a 3 week enrichment program available to all current LANK enrollees Recognize that the use of technology plays an increasingly important role in young children’s development and future success. Further develop computer-based activities in the kindergarten program as we add 3 new computers and a Mac mini to the classroom and introduce “Computer Centers” for curriculum integration and to develop essential skills. Update and redesign LANK’s website, establish LANK’s Facebook page and Twitter account to facilitate communication within the LANK community as well as for external marketing and outreach initiatives. Continue the integration of iPads for curriculum support and instruction that accommodates a variety of learning styles Acknowledge that the school’s physical environment provides a sense of comfort and security, motivates and engages students, and stimulates learning. Ensure an optimal learning environment for our children Plan and execute projects building- wide that enhance LANK’s physical plant to include extensive painting inside and out, the completion of the basement renovation and an update to the Hardi-Plank exterior. Develop LANK’s outside environment continuing the tradition of using our grounds to enrich and enhance curriculum. Add numerous plantings along the outside kindergarten wall and institute a number of projects to reduce erosion. Re-surface sidewalks and parking lots for enhanced safety and appearance.
