Today you will explore two different concepts: Andragogy and Pedagogy.  Define: Andragogy  Define: Pedagogy Read and Review (10 minutes)  Read and Review The Role of Experiential Education in Pedagogy and Andragogy  Highlight and identify key concepts/take-away from the article.  Capture the key concepts on a piece of notebook paper of both Andragogy and Pedagogy Assignment

8   Experiential education is a philosophy of education that describes the process that occurs between a teacher and student that infuses direct experience with the learning environment and content.  Hands-on experience  Andragogy is the method and practice of teaching adult learners; adult education  Pedagogy is the method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept  education of children Vocabulary

9   Adults need to know why they need to know something before they are taught it  The Self-Concept of adults is heavily dependent upon a move towards self direction  Prior experiences provide a rich resource for learning  Adults typically become ready to learn when they experience a need to cope with a life situation or perform a task  Adult’s orientation to learning is life-centered, and they see education as a process of developing increased competency levels to achieve their full potential  The motivation for adult learners is internal and not external  Responsible for Learning Andragogy
