Resumes consist of the following: –Contact information (address, phone number, and address) –Objective (what job you want to obtain) –Education –A list of skills that you have as well as the activities that you have participated in 20

21 Applying: Cover Letter Some applications may require a cover letter. The cover letter contains the following: –Contact information (phone number, address, and email) –How you found the job –Your qualifications –Your interest in the job 21

22 Applying: References When you apply, you may need to list references. –References are people (other than your family members) who know your work skills and potential Some applications may require letters of recommendation. – These are letters that you ask others, who know you well (but not family members), to write about your skills 22

23 Applying: Part III After you have understood all the requirements and directions, start filling out the application. When you fill out the application do the following: –Answer the questions honestly –Spell accurately and use proper punctuation –Have someone (i.e. your parent) proofread your work 23

24 Applying: Part IV After you have completed your application either submit it electronically (if you are completing it on-line) or mail it (if it is a paper application). Remember to submit your application before the deadline and to follow directions when submitting it. 24

41 Before the Interview: Part I Practice! To practice for the interview you can do the following: –Practice with your family members. For example, your mom can be the interviewer and you can be the interviewee. –Tape record your practices and review them. Ask yourself: what do I need to change? 41

42 Before the Interview: Part II When you are practicing make sure you are doing the following: –Firmly shake your interviewer’s hand –Answer the questions that you are being asked –Speak slowly and clearly –Use appropriate language –Be serious yet enthusiastic You need to do the above things at the real interview! 42

43 Before the Interview: Part III Gather all the information that you need to bring to the interview. This may include the following: –Your identification –Resume –Portfolio Bring all these papers in a folder, and make sure the folder is organized so that you can find the papers. 43

44 Before the Interview: Part IV Do you know how to get to the Interview? Get directions to the interview site and practice going there so you do not get lost on the day of the interview. Arrive early to the interview (be 10-15 minutes early). 44

45 Before the Interview: Part V The day before the interview, make sure that you have all the information that you need ready. It is important that you are relaxed. Listen to your favorite music, watch a movie, or do yoga. Get a good night’s sleep and set your alarm clock. 45
