2 Candlewood PTA Mission To achieve educational excellence by encouraging parental involvement, building strong teacher-parent relationships, enabling academic enrichment programs, and providing academic, fun, and family-oriented activities which promote learning and strengthen our community.

3 What does the PTA do? Provides and supports services for our children Coordinates after-school enrichment programs Funds Cultural Arts performances Provides funds for teachers and school Hosts and sponsors community events Advocates for our children and teachers

10 2013/14 Proposed Budget Proposed budget $41,906 Highlights: – Educational Horizons $5,000 – Teacher allowance $5,400 (continuing $200 per teacher/specialist) – Art & Music Supplies increased to $750 – Cultural Arts increased to $5,000 to fund: 3 assemblies storytelling assembly anti-bullying assembly

11 After-School Programs Our after-school programs offer a wide range of learning and enrichment activities that promote the physical, emotional, cognitive and social development of our children!

12 Little Scholars - Builders Build awesome creations Design with legos, recyclable materials and other interesting items Program designed to:  Improve communication, problem-solving, reasoning, creativity and team work  Mondays 3:45-4:45 pm starting September 23  K-2, 3-5  8 weeks/$103

13 Mad Science Sensational science Sparks imaginative learning Harnessing heat, optical illusions, sonic sounds, magnetic magic, and more Tuesdays 3:30-4:30 pm starting October 2 8 weeks/$112

14 Foreign Language in Elementary Schools (FLES) Spanish language and culture program Games, songs, role play, story-telling and hands-on activities Lessons interactive, lively and fun Wednesdays 3:35-4:35 pm starting in October K-1 and 2-5 12 weeks/$190

15 Young Rembrandts Teaches drawing and art Improves:  Attention to detail  Time on task  Visual/spatial organization skills  Creativity  Problem-solving skills  Discipline, persistence & patience  Self-confidence Thursdays 3:40-4:40 pm starting September 19 8 weeks/$105
