2. Copy this definition in your spiral notebook for Today’s Notes  A natural resource is any material in nature that people use and value.  Pg. 68-69  There are so many natural resources in our world that they are divided into two categories: renewable and nonrenewable

3. Renewable resources  Renewable resources are resources that the Earth replaces naturally.  Any natural resource that is alive is a renewable resource because it reproduces naturally. Examples are bananas, cotton, trees, etc..  Some renewable resources are not alive but they are still naturally replaced. For example: wind, water, solar energy, and soil.

4. Nonrenewable resources  Nonrenewable resources are resources that cannot be replaced.  These are natural resources that are not alive and are not replaced naturally.  Some examples include:  Iron, coal, copper, oil, diamonds, etc.

14. Mineral Resources  Mineral resources are: renewable? or nonrenewable?  Mineral resources are nonrenewable.  We can preserve our mineral resources by recycling aluminum and using these resources wisely.

15. Resources and Wealth  The United States is a very wealthy country.  What do you think is a major reason as to why the U.S. is so wealthy?  Read page 72.  Why is the U.S. such a wealthy country?

16. Essay Topic  Write a 5 paragraph essay with 3 points on the following topic.  Due Wednesday September 8 th  We have discussed pros and cons of alternative energy sources: such as hydroelectric power, wind energy, and nuclear power. Write an essay answering this question:  Should we use one or more of these forms of alternative energy? Why or why not?
