My Electricity Assignment By: Brandi Smith

Electricity: What Is electricity? Electricity, in my own words is the energy that is generated, with the build up of electrons. – For Example: Lightining

How is lightening formed?: Part One Lightening is formed from a build up of charges POSITIVE(+) & NEGATIVE(-) The charges form what is called a cloud, or thundercloud When Lightening begins to form, the negatively charged particles (electrons) sink to the bottom of the cloud The electrons separate, because the ground is positively charged with protons. – Opposites attract (+)(-) Once the charge is released, lightening is formed When it hits the ground, it creates electricity, which is what lightening is.

How is lightening formed? : Part two Here is a diagram that shows you, basically what I have Explained:

Resistance and how it effects electricity? Conductors are, basically, types of materials that conduct electricity well. – That is because conducting materials require a lower resistance. Insulators are types of materials that do not conduct electricity efficiently. – That is because insulating materials require a higher resistance. Materials with low resistance allow electricity to flow easily. Materials with high resistance require more voltage, to even become electrically charged. Resistance itself, slows down the movement of electically charged particles.

Pictures and Examples of Resistance: The picture to the right shows a high Resistance, in the rubber. Rubber is an insulator, and she is working out with it, to strengthen her muscles. Resistance is used all over the world, in most work- out equipment. In a conductor the resistance would be much lower

Grounding Usually a material, which allows electricity to flow in the ground. Examples: Lightning Rods built-in skyscrapers. They conducting materials, that are used to transport lightning into the ground, so the lightning doesn’t damage the buildings

Parts of a circuit There are four parts to a circuit I.Switch Turns on/off II.Voltage Source Power Source III.Conductor Material that electricity runs through IV.Power Source What is being powered. Usually, an object

Types of Circuits Parallel – Has more than one path. For Example: Schools use parallel circuits to generate electricity in all areas of their facilities. Series – Has only one path for Electricity to flow.
