56 Subpolar Cyclone in North Pacific A massive subpolar cyclone has been moving across the North Pacific for the last few days. The storm is over 2,000 miles wide from its north to south extent, and is generating gale warnings from the Aleutian Islands of Alaska throughout the Northwest U.S. The Aleutian Low, a semi-permanent low pressure system in the Pacific, is associated with these frequent and large storms. This image was captured by the GOES-West satellite on September 21, 2011 at 1800z.
