ODINCINDIO Info Mgmt Trg Course Feb 2006 Organization by subject: Classification schemes Purpose: Bring related documents together and nearly related on either side (APUPA pattern) –Alien Region: Documents not at all relevant to the information need –Penumbral Region: Documents in the fringe on auxiliary subjects of value –Umbral Region: Documents directly relevant to the purpose of the reader APUAP

ODINCINDIO Info Mgmt Trg Course Feb 2006 Library classification.. 1 Faceted classification schemes: Each facet has meaning - assigned values (e.g. ‘Colon Classification’ of Ranganathan) Enumerated classification schemes: Assigns each subject a place in the arrangement (e.g. Dewey Decimal Classification) –Mixed schemes: With the evolution of time, no library classification scheme remained enumerated!
