Ohio Public Employees Retirement System – OPERS ALL OSU Employees are automatically enrolled in the Retirement System 10 % of each payroll check (before taxes) will be taken out & placed into an OPERS Retirement Account Graduate students have the choice to opt out of the Retirement System. If you choose NOT to participate then: a. Must meet the minimum credit hour requirement – GAA, GRA, GTAs enrolled for at least 4 credits while working – Post-candidacy doctoral enrolled for at least 2 credits while working b. Complete the Request for Optional Exemption as a Student (OPERS) form and the Form SSA-1945: Statement Concerning Your Employment in a Job Not Covered by Social Security within 30 days of your hire date.Request for Optional Exemption as a Student (OPERS) Form SSA-1945: Statement Concerning Your Employment in a Job Not Covered by Social Security c. Return forms to OSU Office of Human Resources 1590 N. High Street, Suite 300 Columbus, OH 43201 **Note: Exemption forms received after 30 days of hire will not be accepted. Forms not completed correctly will not be accepted. If credit hour requirement is not met deductions will be withheld until the criteria is met.
