Problem #1 The Berlin Wall 0n August 20 1961, the Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev ordered the building of a 9 foot high, 96 mile long wall separating East and West Berlin in response to Kennedy’s refusal to remove American troops from West Berlin. On June 26, 1963 Kennedy traveled to West Berlin and addressed the crowds. The speech came to be known as “Ich bin ein Berliner “
