6 What does it mean to be human? In pairs discuss the questions on page 3. What is life about? Take notes on your partners answers as you may be asked to feedback to the class.

13 Islam is a rapidly growing world religion and is said to be the fastest growing religion in the modern world. It claims very near to one and a half billion believers who are widely spread across the world. With the daily media spotlight on this faith and its followers it is a religion that is often misrepresented; now it’s time for you to explore this world faith for yourself.

14 "Righteous is he who believes in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Scriptures and the Prophets." -- Qur'an 2:177 Islam is a religion based upon the messages received by the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) about God in the 7th century, which were later recorded in the Qur'an (Koran); Islam's sacred text. The faith spread rapidly and today Islam is the second largest religion in the world. The Arabic word ‘Islam’ means "submission," and the religion's central belief of submitting to the will of God. Islamic practices are defined by the Five Pillars of Islam: faith, prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and charity.
