PSCR Location-Based Services Roadmap Location-Based Services Definition and Roadmap Framework
2
Location-Based Services Definition - get in general ballpark, can be updated throughout process – Location-Based Services refers to a broad range of applications/functions/services that are based on or enhanced by information about the physical location of a user, device, or target of interest that provide added value to users.

Trends & Drivers Technology Capabilities & Gaps Enabling Actions/Actors Enabled Operational Capabilities Short (0-5 years) Medium (5-10 years) Long (10-20+ years) Vision What external factors influence public safety broadband and location services and how are these evolving? What’s being done? Who’s doing it? How will remaining gaps and barriers be addressed? Software/Apps Devices Network Software/Apps Devices Network Examples of what public safety can now do with the progression of Location Based Services technology Location-Based Services Roadmap Framework Given the stated trends and drivers what technology capabilities need to be developed? What are the gaps and barriers that will prevent these technology capabilities from being realized? Given the stated trends and drivers what technology capabilities need to be developed? What are the gaps and barriers that will prevent these technology capabilities from being realized?

Short (0-5) Medium (5-10) Long (10-20+) Vision Location-Based Services Roadmap Architecture Vision: Have participants write down their vision/desired future for how public safety users will leverage location-based services 20+ years out Participants email ‘desired future’ to PSCR for compilation and brief review during following call ‘Define’ vision/desired future at conclusion of roadmapping process based on all data inputs Timeframes: Short (0-5 years) – Straightforward extrapolation of current technology needs Medium (5-10 years) – Extension of current trends to their reasonable limits Long (10-20+ years) – Development of major new technologies needed to reach beyond capabilities of current approaches
