4. What is a Title I School? Receives federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs:  To provide high-quality education so that all students will meet the state student performance standards  Identifies students experiencing academic difficulties and provides timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards  Supplemental staff, programs, materials, supplies  Parental involvement meetings, trainings, activities  Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers San Antonio ISD-Annual Title I Meeting 4

5. What is a School-wide Program? Purpose is to upgrade the entire educational program in order to raise academic achievement for all students Is built on school-wide reform strategies, rather than separate, add-on services Provides flexibility in spending Title I funds Permits flexibility to coordinate with other funds in support of the school-wide program Focuses on results San Antonio ISD-Annual Title I Meeting 5

6. What does the law require in regards to Parent Involvement?  The Elementary & Secondary Education Act, a.k.a. No Child Left Behind, requires school districts to implement programs, activities and procedures for the involvement of parents.  Such programs, activities and procedures shall be planned and implemented with meaningful consultation with parents of participating students. What is a CNA & CIP?  The CNA & CIP/DIP is your school’s Comprehensive Needs Assessment and Campus/District Improvement Plan and includes:  A Needs Assessment and Summary of Data  Goals and Strategies to Address Academic Needs of Students  Professional Development Needs  Coordination of Resources/Comprehensive Budget  A family component to address parental involvement  You, as Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of these plans. 20. What is the 1% reservation and how are parents involved? Any school district with a Title I Allocation exceeding $500,000 is required by law to reserve 1% of it’s Title I allocation for parental involvement.  Of that 1%, 5% may be reserved at the district level for system- wide initiatives related to parental involvement. The remaining 95% must be allocated to all Title I schools in the district. Therefore each Title I school receives its portion of the 95% to implement school-level parental involvement. Reservations Defined  Funds set-aside for planned activities  May be mandated by law or  Determined as a district-wide initiative based on need You, as Title I parents, have the right to provide input on these reservations and how these funds are used. Private Non-Profit Schools Under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), school districts are required to provide services for eligible private school students, as well as eligible public school students. In particular, Sec. 1120 of Title I, Part A, requires a participating district to provide eligible children attending private elementary and secondary schools, their teachers, and their families with Title I services or other benefits that are equitable to those provided to eligible public school children, their teachers, and their families. Services and budget issues are discussed with private school officials as part of a consultation process before decisions are made to ensure the opportunity for eligible private school children to participate in Title I, Part A programs is not affected.
