Simple Pages for Omeka Lauren Dzura LIS 654 11.08.11

Simple Pages Plug-in The Simple Pages plug-in allows you to create simple web pages for your public Omeka site using a simple web form. For example, an ‘About’ page. It requires no programming knowledge, and optionally allows you to add HTML markup, or even PHP code. On the Simple Page - Browse page, you can view, edit, and manage all of the pages you create.

Installation To download Simple Pages visit the Plug-in section of the Add-On section of Omeka: http://omeka.org/add-ons/plugins/ http://omeka.org/add-ons/plugins Upload the folder to your plug-in folder within your SSH client. Go to Manage Plug-Ins on the main page of your Omeka admin site. Select “install” next to Simple Pages. Once Simple Pages is installed in Omeka, you will see a Simple Pages tab on the top bar of your Omeka admin page.

Configure Pages Click on the Simple Pages tab from the main admin page, and click “Add Page.”

Configure Pages Start building the page by adding the required element “Title.” The rest of the form can be filled out to your preference, utilizing these elements: Slug Text Parent Order Add link to this page to the primary navigation? Make this the homepage? Publish this page?

Slug and Text Box Adding a unique Slug name will change the name of the URL for this specific page. Example: myomekasite.com/about Omeka will automatically create the Slug from the Title Field if this is left blank. Add any text you wish to appear on the page in the Text box. To format the text you have the option to use HTML mark-up.

The Parent Field This drop down field should be used when you want to create a hierarchy of pages, or a nested page. Select “Main Page (No Parent)” to link directly from the homepage. Select a previously created webpage to create a nested page.

Order This field give you the option of ordering your pages. The order of the pages is based on the other pages under the same parent page. Ex: 0,1,2,3,4...

Add link to this page to the primary navigation? Select this field if you choose to link this page to the primary navigation that appears on every page in the website. It will appear along side “Browse Items,” “Browse Collections,” etc.

Home Page Option + Publishing Page You can use Simple Pages to create a custom homepage for your Omeka site. Select the “publish this page?” option when the page is ready to be viewed in your public Omeka site.

Final Steps Once all of the fields are filled out, you have the option to either “Save Page” or “Delete this Page” at the bottom of the form.
