GOAL: Use State and local school library program assessment data to inform decisions regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the improvement of student learning and achievement. ASSESSMENT WORK GROUP

http://usny.nysed.gov/schooladmin/ Create an "Exemplary School Library Media Program" on the School Administrators Page of NYSED Website with a list of resources, for administrators, to support the development of a strong school library program. Recommendation is to develop a task force of SLSA, SSL, SED, and graduate library programs to curate a comprehensive list of supporting documents and tools and create Webpage. ACTION STEP #1

Revise BEDS (Question 21 – Library Program) to reflect current practices to provide an accurate snapshot of school libraries throughout NYS that is easy to access, analyze and interpret online to demonstrate the impact of the school library on student learning. Recommendation is to develop a task force of SLSA, SSL, SED and graduate library programs to revise question accordingly. ACTION STEP #2

Form a task force of representatives from SLSA, SSL, SED, and graduate library programs to evaluate and revise questions in the SLMPE Rubric to reflect current practices in school library programs including Common Core Learning Standards and the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum.SLMPE Rubric Recommendation is to develop a Toolkit on how to effectively use the Rubric to implement, evaluate and develop strong library programs. ACTION STEP #3

Students need to use the skills of inquiry to learn. Recommendation is that the Empire State Information Fluency Continuum (ESIFC) should be predominately available and accessible in Engage NY, as well as on the newly developed School Administrators Page of NYSED's website. ACTION STEP #4

After update, consideration for fast track approval. ACTION STEP #5

Connection to ELA data Recommendation for the NYLA/SSL and SLSA to clearly identify the standards that are taught by School Librarians and that are on the ELA assessments and then have NYSED send the list to the RICs and NTI data teams so that School Librarians can increase student learning through data interpretation and instruction. ACTION STEP #6
