Example: Do you think women of the Sioux tribe had an unfair amount of responsibilities to ensure tribal survival than the men? *Answer: The Sioux women had an unfair amount of responsibility for tribal survival. In paragraph 4 it talks about how the men hunted and protected the tribe from its many enemies. Although it is true the women had more work, the men had the tribe’s very lives in their hands which is a much more difficult job. Therefore, it was not unfair to women. Extended Response Example Prompt/Question: In an extended response, provide and explain two causes of the Civil War. Extended Response: There were a variety of conditions that led to the Civil War. According to the text one factor that led to the war was the economic and social differences between the North and South. The Northern economy relied on industry, and people of different cultures and classes had to work together. The author also stated, the South, which had become a one crop economy after the cotton gin was invented, relied heavily on the use of slavery. These differences caused a gap in economic and social attitudes. Finally, in paragraph 4 it states that most northerners were against slavery. This was due to the Dred Scott Case, John Brown’s Raid and the passing of the Fugitive Slave Act, as well as the publishing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. These are two of the many causes of the Civil War.
