Presentation on theme: "What is respiration. What is ventilation"— Presentation transcript:

1 What is respiration. What is ventilation
What is respiration? What is ventilation? What is the difference between respiration and breathing?

2 Respiration • explain how ventilation provides oxygen for aerobic respiration which releases energy for work • explain how glucose and oxygen diffuse from capillaries into respiring cells, and how carbon dioxide diffuses from respiring cells into capillaries • explain why heart rate and breathing rate increase with exercise and interpret data on these measurements • explain why respiration is increased in exercising muscles and why diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide at the lung surface and muscle cells is increased • explain why during vigorous exercise, muscle cells may not receive sufficient oxygen for their energy requirements • describe that glucose is changed to lactic acid and energy is released, during anaerobic respiration • explain why extra oxygen is needed to remove the lactic acid that causes cramp (oxygen debt)

3 Respiration What are the equations for respiration?
Where do the raw materials come from?

4 How does circulation contribute to respiration?

5 What is diffusion? Why does diffusion happen?
What factors affect the rate of diffusion?

6

7

8 How do the raw materials move around the body?
Use the idea of diffusion to explain how

9 Where energy is used in the body

10 Variables Independent Dependant Control

11 How can you ensure: Reliability Validity

12 What is the effect of exercise on Heart Rate & Breathing Rate?
Resting (basal or baseline) Immediately after exercise 2 mins after exercise 4 mins after exercise Heart rate Breathing rate

13 What do your results suggest?
Explain your conclusion using the data you have gathered.

14 Anaerobic and aerobic exercise
What is the difference? What is the equation for anaerobic respiration? Explain oxygen debt.

15 Home work For this week and next weeks homework task I would like you to research and write an essay of about 500 words on the title below (Not to be plagiarised from the internet). Title: The role of fermentation and protein synthesis in the production of insulin. To be handed in Friday 8th May.
