Aerobic cellular respiration is the utilisation of oxygen by cells for the production of ATP It is a series of over 20 chemical reactions that can be divided into four phases The first phase is called Glycolysis and takes Place in the cell Cytoplasm Glycolysis involves the breakdown of one molecule of glucose (6C) to form 2 molecules of pyruvic acid (3C) or Pyruvate; there is a net production of two atp molecules during this phase Glucose 2 Pyruvic Acid Glycolysis 2 ATP 2 ATP

GLYCOLYSIS Glycolysis takes place in the 1 of cells and begins with the activation of the main respiratory substrate, namely the hexose sugar 2. This activation involves the addition of two 3 molecules provided by two molecules of 4. The resultant activated molecule is known as 5 and in the next stage of glycolysis it is split into two molecules of 6. The third stage entails the oxidation of these molecules by the removal of 7, which is transferred to a carrier called 8. The final stage is the production of the 3 carbon molecule 9 which also results in the formation of two molecules of 10.
