Waterstone’s Book Visit oChildren really enjoyed this – chose own books for Reading Ambassadors and Book Club. oReal sense of ownership over their book choice – checked by teacher. oAware of locality of a good children’s book shop. oTwo parents attended to promote importance of visiting book shops with children. oPlan to go again in Year 6.

Reading Ambassadors oSuccessful at boosting confidence of certain children – put them in charge of reading. oDeveloping reading with expression. oUnderstood the purpose of a book is to bring enjoyment and engagement – can see instant feedback with nursery children. oEstablished closer links with nursery with aim to develop in Year 6.

Targeted Book Club oChildren discussed book outside of class with peers. oSense of exclusivity, reading is valued/special. oForum led by children, chance to discuss their enjoyment rather than focus on reading skills. oConcern over children’s book choice not being suitable for every reader’s ability.

Success Criteria oBy end of year: o80% of children had made at least two N.C. sub levels progress. o53% of children made at least three N.C. sub levels progress. oBut children’s enjoyment of reading at centre of project. oVideo link here

Next Steps for Year 6 oParent Conversations about reading with child. oCamden Library Membership. oSecond visit to Waterstone’s to choose new set of books. oAsk the children for suggestions too.
