The New Term First few days of term will be a staggered start to allow children to experience the setting and daily routines and build relationships with staff. Information of dates will be found in pack All children fulltime from Friday 5th September 2014

What is the Foundation Stage?
The Foundation Stage begins when children first attend a pre-school or nursery setting. The final year of the Foundation stage is when children are in a Reception class of a primary school. It prepares children for learning in their future school career.

Areas of learning… The NEW Framework from September 2012:
Three Prime Areas: -Communication and language (CL) - Physical Development (PD) Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSE) Four Specific Areas: Literacy (L) Mathematics (M) Understanding the World (UW) Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)

How the Areas link… Snack bar-
PSE – sharing apples out, ensuring everyone has one and why this is important, CL– describing how the apples taste and coming up with new vocabulary to describe this e.g. crunchy, smooth, etc. UW – where did these apples come from, how did they grow? EAD- listening to music. M– how many children are there, how many apples will we need, match 1:1, how many more/less do we need, count out 5 apples for me, etc.

A typical day will be… Come in and find name, table top activities Carpet time Various Indoor and Outdoor Activities (Snack bar opens) Phonics activities Lunch time Various Indoor and Outdoor Activities Playtime Story time before home time

Uniform Please ensure that names (not initials) are in EVERYTHING!!!
Perhaps put in a coloured ribbon into fleece along with name. Send coats EVERYDAY Sensible shoes (Velcro fastening) and no jewellery PE Kit

Children will need: A named coat everyday
A filled water bottle everyday A named jumper or fleece everyday A book bag everyday PE kit in school all week Packed lunch or a hot dinner ordered at the beginning of each week.

What can you do to help your child over the summer?
Share books and discuss stories Create a shoe box Send us a postcard Practise reading their name Practise using a knife and fork (if school dinners) Practise putting on coats and jumpers including zips Toileting and hand washing Have fun!!!
