OCR NATIONALS IN SPORT NATIONAL CERTIFICATE NATIONAL DIPLOMA

What are these courses? They are referred to as ‘vocational A levels’ Suitable for those who would like to work in the sports industry This can be straight after college or via university Not an easy A level – requires them to be organised and disciplined (we do help with this!)

NATIONAL CERTIFICATE IN SPORT Equivalent to one A level in one year 4 mandatory units 2 optional units Work experience All work portfolio assessed Grades are pass, merit or distinction

NATIONAL DIPLOMA Equivalent to two A levels in two years 4 mandatory units 8 optional units Choice of pathways – sports performance - sports development Work experience All work portfolio assessed Grades are pass, merit or distinction

ASSESSMENT OF WORK Each unit is given a pass, merit or distinction grade Certificates are awarded for individual units Each unit achieves points P = 1,M = 2,D =3 National certificate = minimum 6 points National diploma = minimum 12 points All mandatory units must be passed

ASSESSMENT OF WORK –CERTIFICATE –Pass = 6 points –Merit = 10 points –Distinction = 14 points –Must gain minimum of 6 passes DIPLOMA Pass = 12 points Merit = 20 points Distinction = 28 points 4 mandatory units at Pass 4 specialist options at Pass 4 other optional units

TIMETABLE Both the diploma & certificate will be 10 lessons on the timetable Can be studied with 1or 2 other AS subjects Expected to put in at least 5 extra hours of study in their own time per week Coursework deadline dates throughout the year

Level 3 National Certificate and Diploma in Sport at Barton Peveril A new and exciting course Involves practical sessions Coursework only – no exams Require minimum of 5 grade C’s for Certificate – including Maths & English Require minimum of 5 B’s & C’s for Diploma – including Maths, English & Science Lively and inquiring mind

Level 2 National Certificate in Sport This is designed for the students who do not gain the full qualifications to study at level 3 Its all coursework made up of 6 units (4 mandatory & 2 optional) The sporting environment; health safety & prevention of injury in sport; effective sport leadership; body in action. Everything else is the same as at level 3
