L IFE L ED S PIRIT, H OW ? Glenshee Conference, June 2012, Talk 3

1. R EALIZE  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1 Cor 2:12

ST. C YRIL OF J ERUSALEM  The oil of gladness with which Christ was anointed was a spiritual oil; it was in fact the Holy Spirit himself, who is called the oil of gladness because he is the source of spiritual joy. But we too have been anointed with oil, and by this anointing we have entered into fellowship with Christ and have received a share in his life. Beware of thinking that this holy oil is simply ordinary oil and nothing else. After the invocation of the Spirit it is no longer ordinary oil but the gift of Christ, and by the presence of his divinity it becomes the instrument through which we receive the Holy Spirit

2.A SK  “ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:13

S T. A UGUSTINE  Breath in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.

3.F OLLOW IN EVERYTHING  “ Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1Tim 4:12

4.P ERSIST  “For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.” Proverbs24:16  Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The L ORD will be a light to me. Mic 7:8

5. W AIT FOR C HRIST IN UNITY WITH THE S PIRIT  “ And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.” Revelation22:17

6. E NJOY THE FRUIT “T he fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” Galatians 5:22,23

S T. J OHN OF K RONSTADT  When you say a prayer, He (Holy Spirit) is in every word of it, and like a Holy Fire, penetrates each word.

7. S ENSITIVE TO CONVICTIONS ...And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. 5 Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe. 6 And he said to his men, “The L ORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the L ORD ’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the L ORD. 1 Sam 24:4-6

8.R EADY FOR TRANSFORMATIONS  “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

S T. S ERAPHIM OF S AROV  God is a fire that warms and kindles the heart and inward parts. And so, if we feel in our hearts coldness, which is from the devil, - for the devil is cold - then let us call upon the Lord, and He will come and warm our hearts with perfect love not only for Him, but for our neighbour as well. And from the presence of warmth the coldness of the hater of good will be driven away.
