2  INTRODUCTIONS

3  Chapter- A chapter is an established body/entity at a University that host members.  Member- Any previous AM who has met all requirements and has completed the member intake process.  Active- Meet all requirements of school and Fraternity; in pursuit of degree.  In Active- Does not meet requirements.  Alumni- Possess a degree; may choose to be active as graduate student.  Associate Member Educator (A.M.E)- Is both the recruiter and instructor for the member intake process and its line. He/She also serves as a mentor for AM’s.  GREEK TERMINOLOGY

4  Membership Intake Process- Is the initial learning process that all applicants must participate in. It equips new members to become familiar with the policies, procedures and history. The length of the process varies between lines.  Associate Member (A.M.)- Is a qualified applicant accepted in to the process.  Line- A group of A.M’s selected to enter in to the process together.  Parent- Each A.M. will be assigned a parent to serve as both a friend & mentor.  GREEK TERMINOLOGY

5  Established in 1985 @ The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH  First & Largest Co-ed Latino Fraternity in the Nation  Founders consist of 13 individuals, 3 men and 10 women  Today  Over 1500 members  Over 200 Lines  20 Chapters Nationally in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Florida and Texas. We are still growing!  HISTORY

6  Serve the university campus and community  Bring forth on a scholastic level, Hispanics/Latinos and others at the university on the basis of friendship  Provide a supplementary educational, social and cultural experience for the mutual cultivation of its members  Advocate for the needs and concerns of the Hispanic/Latino students  Promote a basis for the diversity of the Hispanic/Latino cultures  Enhance the educational experience through the social and cultural activities, and assist in the development of members’ leadership abilities  Promote inter-fraternity relations  Foster positive relations between the Greek System, university/college administration, and the outside community  8 PURPOSES

11  Enrolled in 6 Credit Hours (min)  Minimum of 2.50/4.00 G.P.A.  Not be a First semester Student; (Transfer Students are Permitted, as well as freshman with high school / college credit)  Not Belong To Another Social Fraternity or Sorority  Complete the membership intake process  Requirements

12 The Jaguar Program If you don’t meet the requirements this semester don’t worry… We have ways for you to stay involved! The J.P. was designed for individuals who are ineligible to join this semester based on the Alpha Psi Lambda requirements. We encourage people to participate! It’s fun, free, and best of all, it gives you an idea of what to expect. The J.P. allows the interest to fully participate in all programs, activities and events sponsored by A.P.L. There are no financial obligations or commitments to participate. Its totally free! After a semester, the applicant will be reviewed for acceptance in to the Member Intake Process.

13  AMs learn what it's like to be a member  Participate in Community Service Events  Host various fundraisers  Learn about the fraternity’s history and structure  Build close relationships with members  Host a Social Event  Promote academics  Recruit  Establish networking avenues  MEMBERSHIP INTAKE PROCESS What to expect during the process:

14  Dues are $125 per semester. (Our dues are one the cheapest in all of Greek Life)  Dues are non-refundable. Though cash is accepted, we prefer using a check or money order for documentation.  Payment plans are available upon request but full payments must be received prior to the semester ending.  Financial assistance may be awarded to a member who displays outstanding commitment to the fraternity.  The line or the individual AM may also host several fundraisers as a means to pay off their dues.  MEMBERSHIP INTAKE PROCESS Dues

15  TIME COMMITTMENT  Weekly educational meetings set for Tuesday 8PM at a location on campus.  Weekend activities (2-4 events). We will notify you 2 weeks in advance to make proper arrangements.  Study hours: Recommended 3-5 hours/week but not mandatory.

16   Alpha Psi Lambda maintains a strict NO HAZING policy.  Alcohol is not permitted during any membership intake activities.  Sexual Harassment, misconduct or violation to peoples rights will not be tolerated. POLICIES

17   Greeks have a college graduation rate 20% higher than non-Greeks  The following percentages indicate people who are affiliated with being in a Greek organization: 76% percent of US senators, 71% of the men listed in the Who’s Who in America, 85% of the Fortune 500 executives  Over 400,000 collegiate men nationwide are in a fraternity  All but 2 US presidents were in a fraternity STATISTICS

18   Fraternities are a proven support network on the college campus  Fraternities also provide  Scholastic resources to help achieve academic goals  Hands-on opportunities to practice leadership skills  Involvement in the campus and community  Career opportunities through interaction with fraternity alumni  Life long friendships   provides  A familia away from home to help adjust to college  Unique real world experience working with both men & women BENEFITS

20   Attend at least one Social event listed on website.  All applicants must fill out an application and schedule an interview with the recruiter (AME)  GPA Verification (provide a printed copy of transcript)  Provie copy of School schedule, work &/ other obligations.
