www.ihs.com © IHS 2003 Key Examples of IHS Collaborative Efforts ASTM University Developed and implemented an on-line learning environment with e-commerce capabilities for both internal and external ASTM customers. Objective for ASTM is to increase their standards use within the engineering community. Warner Robins ALC Define and build a Indentured Part Configuration Management System (PCMS). Develop Parts Cleansing tools for PCMS. Performed business analysis to determine training needs for implementation of project management tool; resulted in the delivery of an on-line training simulation, hands-on lab, and user guides. Obsolescence Initiatives DLA E-Portal Pilot--Build and demonstrate a parts obsolescence search tool as a pilot for commercial deployment. GIDEP Transformation--Provide business and technical expertise in supporting the GIDEP transformation initiative. Joint Council on Aging Aircraft--Support JCAA on Open System Architecture studies and Working Group activities. NAVAIR AAIPT--Define and analyze processes and tools currently used and provide solutions to achieve mission objectives.

www.ihs.com © IHS 2003 National Tooling Database Problem As weapons systems age, the acquisition of forged repair parts becomes more difficult because supply chain information disappears. Location of tools to make the forged parts becomes lost. Research time to find forge sources increases as does the cost of acquisition. Weapons system readiness is impacted, the warfighter (or the space pioneer) is not efficiently supported. Clean and complete parts information can then be loaded into Haystack and distributed to DLA, Government and Tool Shops. Solution Create a National Tooling Database, integrating data from multiple sources (Forging shops, DLA, and another private contractor) Link data to wealth of Haystack information for parts management and logistics support data Commercialize the solution and bring data to the marketplace IHS – Cost Share participant in FDMC program

www.ihs.com © IHS 2003 Benefits of Using IHS and Haystack Faster identification of Tooling Sources (visibility extends beyond the OEM) Source tracking (CAGE/D&B/CCR/CatalogXpress) Instant utilization of search tools in Haystack (capitalizing on proven technology): Data Manipulation: Batching--import data from other applications Exporting data to custom formats, at user level XML exportation to integrate into ERPs (like SAP), which means future integration with new systems (like BSM) Innovative Search Techniques: Embedded Part Number Search (wildcards that can be placed anywhere in a search term) Multiple search queries with no limitation Data Integration Linking to relevant specs/standards Linking to historical data sources
