3 What do you have? Graduate Appointments Research, Teaching, or Graduate Graduate Recruitment Scholarship GRS Fellowship

4 Graduate Appointment/GRS Carries a work requirement and provides a stipend. May include a full, half, or partial tuition scholarship. Requires employment paperwork. Fellowship Scholarship. Includes a tuition scholarship. Does not carry a work requirement. May require tax paperwork.

5 What do I sign? Award letter sent to your Ohio University e-mail address. Log into the Graduate Appointment Portal. Review the Graduate Appointment Guidelines. Complete Employment Paperwork www.ohio.edu/graduate/current/apptsdetail.cfm Portal: www.ohio.edu/graduate/current/index.cfm

6 Registration Requirements Graduate Appointment Minimum 12 graduate hours (fall & spring) Fellowship and GRS Minimum 15 graduate hours (fall & spring) Graduate courses numbered 5000 and higher Courses taken for Audit, Undergraduate courses, and OPIE prefix courses do not count. Complete registration by Friday of the second week of the semester. Departments may require more registration hours.

7 Standards of Work Maintain a 3.0 grade point average. Graduate Appointment/GRS Meet quality of work expectations set by department and supervisor.

8 Credits applied to your bill Instructional Fees – Tuition Scholarship Non-Resident Surcharge Appointment letter indicates amount covered General Fee – partial subsidy credit Students with a GRS, half, or full tuition scholarship Health Insurance Based on stipend amount, may receive $40 subsidy toward health insurance

9 Payment Schedule Graduate Appointment/GRS Stipends pay in semi- monthly installments. Fellowship Fellowships disburse in monthly installments. Tuition scholarship applied at beginning of semester once registration requirement is met.

11 Paperwork Requirements: Grad Appointment/GRS Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) Tax Forms (W-4) PERS Form University Personal Data Profile Direct Deposit Authorization New Employee Tax Compliance Notification (non-US citizens only) Student Employee Hire Checklist Notice of Fraud Reporting System Voluntary Self- Identification of Disability

12 Completing an I-9 Must present official documents that: Establish Identity Establish Employment Authorization Your I-9 must be completed by 5:00 PM Wednesday, August 26 in order to retain your appointment.

13 What about the SSN? New to the US? Don’t have a Social Security Number? Register for classes. Download the “F-1 Social Security verification letter” from the ISFS website. www.ohio.edu/global/isfs/students/current-students/forms.cfm Follow the letter’s instructions. Take your card to Payroll AND the Registrar’s Office to update your accounts.
