Open Source Immersive BIM Environment Team James Ross, Daniel Comeaux M.S. Computer Science students Sample Projects
4
Immersive BIM Objective To give the user a realistic experience in a virtual environment. Create ability to interact with BIM objects in the environment as well a pull up information about the object being touched. Pictures – mockups – other examples
5
Immersive BIM Project Overview Immersive BIM Project Overview
6
Immersive BIM Milestones 1.) Successfully incorporate a simple model into the virtual reality environment 2.) Interact with the model by opening doors and clicking on the walls for their information 3.) Integrate the VR Goggles into the VR environment and be able to move through it. 4.) Display the information about the exterior and interior walls as a hud. 5.)Fully import a BIM wall into the environment as well as the information about it. 6.) Import an actual BIM into the virtual environment and have ability to examine components of model for information.

Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield Corey Berry B.S. in Computer Science with Minor in Software Engineering Sample Project History
12
Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield Corey Berry Help soldiers retrieve BIM information “on-the- fly” through Heads Up Displays [HUD] Use RFID and Soldier’s heading to calculate position in the building Retrieve information with voice or eye movement commands.
13
Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield When within 30 feet of a building the soldier will receive a signal from the RFID chip on the exterior of the building. The signal will contain an encrypted key which will allow BIM data to be retrieved. Virtual BIM Code Compliance Lacey Duckworth Currently PHD student in Computer Science Sample Projects
16
Virtual BIM Code Compliance Objectives Tool to compare BIM models against standard code specifications Lists problems found Virtual walk-through of BIM models with pop- ups of properties and relevant codes.
17
Virtual BIM Code Compliance Approach Import BIM models into VR Object Oriented external compliance engine Create pop-up and compliance list in VR
18
Potential Benefits of Virtual BIM Code Compliance Better code compliance in advance of construction Saved money through fewer errors

BIM Tele-Engineering Isaiah Williams Currently Master’s student in Computer Science Sample Project Open Source Building Environment for Simulation and Training http://www.icee.usm.edu/osbest/
20
BIM Tele-Engineering
21
Objectives Allow engineers world-wide to include walk- through and annotate virtual reality BIM models in regular teleconferences
22
BIM Tele-Engineering Approach Survey and understand current ACE teleconference methodology Add functionality to allow BIM models to be loaded, viewed and changed in teleconference
23
Potential Benefits of BIM Tele-Engineering Models built in virtual reality for use in other projects Less travel Saving money
24
5D BIM Visual Composer Lewis Jones Currently PHD student in Computer Science Sample Projects
25
5D BIM Visual Composer Objective Tool to use 5D models for promotional and educational videos Plug-in to import 5D Model Sequences (with underlying data) into Open Source Movie Editor software Plug-in to provide BIM-specific movie editing capabilities (such as information pop-up and component highlighting) Case study showing use of the new tool
26
5D BIM Visual Composer Approach Phase 1 - Plug-in to import 5D Model Sequences (with underlying data) into Open Source Movie Editor software Phase 2 - Plug-in to provide BIM-specific movie editing capabilities (such as information pop-up and component highlighting) Phase 3 - Case study demonstrating use of the new tool
