Background on course One of my passions and large part of my research work is Information Visualization. I’ll share some examples during the course. This is the first time I’ve taught a course in Visualization. So this of this as a test pilot, and you’re the guinea pigs. I initially planned this as a seminar course for about a dozen students. We have a diverse collection of backgrounds and experiences in our class members. Student introductions.

Help Customize this Course! I have way too much material for this course. So I have to decide what to cover and in what detail. YOU HAVE SOME CONTROL in what we cover by telling me your interests (today and next week). I’ll use this information to customize the course, the presentations and assignments.

What to Expect in this Course 2 readings a week, discussion in class about readings 2-3 In-Class exercises during classes 1 assignment every week, which we’ll review in class Instructor and student review and critique of examples and each others work (we will learn from each other) I believe you learn best by exposing you to ideas and information, giving you guidance on best practices, and then learning by doing. We will practice what we learn through exercises and assignments, and then being challenged to use our skills in a high quality effort on a larger scale (two projects).
