“The Second Touch of Christ’
22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” 24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” (Mark 8:22-24)

25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t go into the village.” (Mark 8:25-26)

Some Interesting Thoughts. “Some people brought a blind man…” (v. 22). People MUST be brought to Jesus. It is the responsibility of believers to bring others to Christ. Lost people are blind to their need.

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 COR 4:4) “and begged Jesus to touch him” (v. 22).

Only the touch of the master’s hand can take away that blindness. They were limiting Jesus to work in only the way that they had expected Him to work. 23 “He took the blind man by the hand…” Jesus dealt with him one on one.

Jesus touched, but the man was not healed at the moment of one touch. 21 “Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. (Matt 11:21)

23 “When he had spit on the man’s eyes.” 23 “Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” When God asks questions such as this it is usually for the benefit of others. He touched him again and the man saw clearly. Why the second touch?

Some possible answers. Salvation is not progressive. Once a person exercises faith in the finished work of Christ by obeying the gospel, he is saved.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” (John 3:36)

24 “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and to believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. (John 5:24) 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:16)

Only one touch is needed if your heart is ready to hear. We have to come to Jesus only once. We don’t have to offer some sort of sacrifice every time we sin.

20 So he got up and went to his father.” But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. (Luke 15:20)

No matter how messed up your life is, it is only one step back to the Lord. If you need to draw closer to the Lord today, take the step of repentance and come home.

Sometimes, people need a second touch to bring them to clear thinking. The disciples did. (cf. vs. 18) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? (Mark 8:18) These disciples needed to be told over and over (a second touch).

Sometimes the sinner needs a second touch to bring them to faith. Maybe he didn’t really believe or understand? But once he got a glimpse, he believed! Some folks need to hear it again and again and again!

“The Second Touch of Christ’
Salvation is by grace through faith…and some may need a second touch before they will exercise faith in Jesus!

Conclusion God is not willing that any should perish. Christians, have you given up on that one person who never seems to respond? Don’t give up...ask the Lord to touch them again.
