Dating Abuse Types Physical - Pinching, shoving, slapping, grabbing, intimidation (blocking doors), use of weapons Emotional - put-downs, insults, threats, possessiveness, overdependency, huge mood swings, humiliation, accusations, withdrawal of attention, isolation from friends or activities Sexual - Unwanted touching, forced sexual activities, pressure to have sex, threats to find someone who will do what he or she wants sexually Physical - Pinching, shoving, slapping, grabbing, intimidation (blocking doors), use of weapons Emotional - put-downs, insults, threats, possessiveness, overdependency, huge mood swings, humiliation, accusations, withdrawal of attention, isolation from friends or activities Sexual - Unwanted touching, forced sexual activities, pressure to have sex, threats to find someone who will do what he or she wants sexually

Dating Abuse Statistics 1 in 11 teens reports being a victim of physical dating abuse each year 1 in 4 - verbal, physical, emotional or sexual abuse each year 1 in 5 high school girls have been physically or sexually abused by a dating partner 1 in 3 teens report knowing a friend or peer who has been hit, punched, kicked, slapped, choked by partner. Nearly 80% of teenage girls who have been physically abused in their dating relationships continue to date their abuser. Almost 70% of young women who have been raped knew their rapist either as a boyfriend, friend or casual acquaintance. Why? Risk of having an unhealthy relationship increases for teens who: Believe it is ok to use threats or violence to get their way or express frustration Use alcohol or drugs Can’t manage anger or frustration Hang out with violent peers Have low self-esteem or are depressed Have learning difficulties or other problems at school No parental supervision or support Witness abuse at home or in community Have a history of aggressive behaviors or bullying ABUSE IS A CHOICE!
