3 Creating and protecting ownership and economic opportunity Who We Are: 501(c)(3) Non-Profits 1980: Center for Community Self-Help Created to encourage and support worker-owned businesses through management consulting and technical assistance 1984: Self-Help Ventures Fund Community development loan fund for specialized non-profit, commercial and business loans, real estate development and national home mortgage demonstration program 2002: Center for Responsible Lending Non-partisan advocacy and research organization that works to protect homeownership and family wealth by fighting predatory lending practices.

4 Creating and protecting ownership and economic opportunity Who We Are: Credit Unions Self-Help Credit Union (1984) Includes CUs that have served NC since as early as 1944. 60,000 members 20 branches $560 million in deposits Self-Help Federal Credit Union (2008) Created to bring together a statewide network of credit union branches in California. Includes institutions that have served California since as early as 1936 and Chicago since 1882. 50,000 members 20 branches (17 in California & 3 in Chicago) $465 million in deposits

Helped achieve national mortgage standard that ensures fair, sustainable loans. Help push for successful abolition of bank payday lending (“deferred deposit advance”) and elimination of payday lending in multiple states.
