2. Who was she and why is she important?  Was a teacher, writer (author), and journalist.  Wrote notable magazine series and biographies.  Was the first woman as a journalist and muckraker.  She wrote an article to against The big business which is the Standard Oil Company.

3. Early Life  Tarbell Was born on November 5 th, 1857 in Amity Township, Pennsylvania.  Her father, Frank Tarbell, built wooden oil storage tanks, then became an oil producer.  Graduated from Allegheny College in 1880 and she was the only woman in class.  Moved to Ohio to teach science for a short time.  She moved to France to write the biographies.

4. Facts  Was her quality bad or good? Good! She was an inspiration, determined, intelligent, independent, and resourceful. None of things found about her as bad.  She wanted to be a Biologist.  She Preferred a career over marriage.  She worked in 4 places: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and California.  Died on January 6, 1944 and was put in the National women’s Hall Frame in 2000.  Tarbell was honored to having her appear on a U.S. postage stamp.

5. John Rockefeller: Standard Oil Company  Ida Tarbell was interviewing The Standard Oil companies. She found out that Rockefeller was to blame. Rockefeller was advantage and unfair to another business. She aware of all of this that’s why she wrote a book called The History of the Standard Oil to expose monopolistic, Rockefeller, for what he truly was and did. She think the public deserved to know about this and the truth. She was breaking up this company which her work caused the U.S. supreme court’s decision to break up the Standard Oil monopoly in 1911
