Famous American author and journalist

Born on November 5, 1857 in a log cabin in Pennsylvania. Graduated high school and went on to be the only girl to graduate in her class at college.

Moved to Paris, France where she wrote for American Magazines and continued her studies. Got hired by Mcclure Magazines. Published several of her articles as books including biographies of Napoleon, Madame Roland and Abraham Lincoln.

Left McClure’s magazine in 1906 and bought American magazine which she co-edited and wrote for almost ten years. Later in life, she became a popular lecturer for about twenty years. Wrote many books. Published her autobiography All in the Day’s Work in 1939.

Ida Tarbell is best known for her two volume work The History of the Standard Oil Company which led to the break up of the Standard Oil Company in New Jersey.
