11 AIMS: 1) talk about themselves 2) announce the results/findings of a conversation 3) exchange and compare information MATERIALS AND MEANS: paper, pens, board, markers

12 DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: Students are divided into 4 groups of 5. They are asked to think about the means they use in order to communicate with their friends, how often they use each one of them and the reason to prefer one more than the others, One of the students in every group writes down whatever is said in his/her group. A student at each group announces what has been written so far. The teacher on the board the findings of all the groups

13 Representatives of each group (4 students) talk about the means of communication that their group prefer and which are written on the board. They compare them with the findings of the other groups in order to find out similarities and differences in what they have said. Other representatives compare the sentences on the board showing how frequent each item of communication is used and express their opinions on these. And the last representatives talk about and compare the reasons for which students prefer to use one way of communication more than another one. A review follows where all means of communication are mentioned (from carrier pigeons to email)

I liked the method/s because: “It’s a variation”, “I learn about my classmates” I like the visualization (Mind Map) it´s like learning while playing, a lot of fun. it was very interesting. it´s learning by doing (talk, speak English all the time) it trains communication with other people. I can talk with other students about things. it´s a different way of learning and not just theory. I´ve learned easily. I like to work in groups. learning by moving is more fun. it means fun and I got a better contact with the other students. Each student had the possibility to talk I was relaxed during the class It was fun to move around I like to get out of the desk It was a lot of fun It is more modern

I didn´t like the method/s, because: It was too loud and it was so difficult to understand my classmates (double circle). in the circle it was too much voice chaos. it was a bit stressy and a bit too loud when everybody talks at the same time; that makes it difficult to concentrate. if you did it more than once or twice it could become boring. I don´t need this way of learning, I never use Mind Maps. It was noisy (double circle) I didn’t learn something new It was a lot of noise It wasn’t a real lesson, we just played I didn’t learn anything

29 8a/b-My personal way to communicate There are different ways to communicate in modern life, But for me the best way to communicate is with voice of course. But it is important to use my face, my hands and my eyes too. The internet is also important and the mobile phone. I never use letters, fax or music for communication. I think that life communication is better than e-mail contacts. Because you can read better between the lines if you can Look into the face of the person who you talk to. Ira My personal way to communicate The kind of communicating is a very important action in our modern life because it brings people together for talking. It shows if a person is interested to talk or not. Every man and every woman has a different personal way to communicate and my way is communication with face, hands and eyes, also bodylanguage. I often use my mouth, sure, most of the time and this is the fastest way. Julian

30 My personal way to communicate There are many ways to communicate with other people. There are direct ways and indirect ways. My favorite ways are with the voice and when I speak I very often use my hands and my face to give important things or funny things more expression. I´ve never used flags, but I think it might be funny to communicate this way in public. I use my Mobile Phone mostly to write sms, I rarely use it to call someone. Tim My personal way to communicate Communication is the basis of our society, everybody communicates to show the others what he wants or to tell them, his opinion for example.There are many way of communication a few of them are: Speaking, sending e-mails, using mobile phones, writing letters etc. Another important basis for communication is body language everbody shows a lot about his opinion by using it. I mostly use my voice for communication but if I use my PC and write or read and e-mail I don’t need my voice. Furthermore if I communicate by using my voice I definitely use my body language and I am not aware of it. David St.

31 CONCLUSIONS Students are more active in student-centered English Lessons than traditional English Lessons. Almost every student has the opportunity to participate during the lesson and express his/her own ideas or the ones of the group he/she represents. Students seem to enjoy the fact that they can talk about topics that are modern and familiar to them. The students find teachers’ instructions clear.

32 More than half of the students have good cooperation with other students. Students at a critical average think this method suits them. More than half of the students believe that they have gained knowledge in the end. Nearly the same amount finds these learning methods very helpful. Almost half of the students don’t want to try this method again.

42 CONCLUSIONS Approximately 80 % students didn’t have any timing problem. Only half of the teachers are happy with the students’ motivation. Teachers think most students have taken part in activities.

43 Most teachers believe their students will gain self-learning skills by using this method. 90 % teachers claim that their students have gained knowledge on topics.

57 CONCLUSIONS 75 % students said that they have participated in class actively. 38 % of the students have understood teachers’ instructions clearly. 37 % of the students think they have cooperated with their classmates.

58 More than half of the students believe that this method convinient for them. Approximately 85 % students believe that they have gained knowledge on topics and these methods are helpful for them in learning. Half of the students want to try these methods again.

67 CONCLUSIONS Most teachers didn’t have any timing problems. They believe that the students motivation 100 %. There is no student who doesn’t want to take part in activities. A few students didn’t participate actively.

68 Half of the teachers believe that their students will gain new skills by using these methods. All of them thinks that the students gained knowledge on topics. Most of the teachers checked if the students learned the topic or not.
