2. DO NOW: BUILD A FRIEND Wouldn’t it be great if you could build your very own best friend? Unfortunately, true friends cannot be built, or even bought. True friendships must be found, nurtured, and then cherished. But let’s just say you could somehow create the “perfect” friend. You probably have an idea or two about the qualities or traits you’d look for in this individual. Your job is to spend a little time describing the qualities or traits you’d want in a friend and explain why. (3-5 traits or qualities) Then describe and explain what are some of the qualities or traits that you have that you believe make you a great friend. (3-5 traits or qualities)

3. THE OATH Re-read “The Oath” and answer the following questions 1.Who is going to be telling this story? 2.What do we learn about them in this passage? 3.Where are they writing this oath? 4.What is the story going to be about? 5. What is an oath?

4. WHAT IS A CHARACTER TRAIT? A word that describes a person, focusing on a characters personality or behavior.

5. CHARACTER TRAIT EXAMPLE

6. WHAT IS AN EMOTION? Emotions are: short-lived or temporary, intense feelings.

7. CHARACTER TRAITS VS. EMOTIONS The two terms are similar, but emotions can change from moment to moment, while character traits are developed over time. Example: a character may generally exhibit the trait of cheerfulness, yet he or she may feel the emotion of sadness when a friend moves away. The KEY word here is FEEL.
